| エミリー・ディキンソンの詩から「希望は羽の生えた生き物（Hope is the thing with feathers）」（壺齋散人訳） 希望は羽の生えた生き物 止まるところは魂のなか 言葉のない調べを歌い 決してやめることがない 歌声は大風でも聞こえてくる こんなにも大勢の人をあたためる この小さな鳥をいじけさせるなら それはよほどひどい嵐にちがいない 凍てついた土地でも歌声が聞こえる 見知らぬ海でも聞いたことがある でもどんなときであっても パン屑ひとつねだったことがない 希望を鳥に譬え、その歌声が人を鼓舞するという。その鳥の歌声はどんなときにでも止むことがない。それをやめさせるような嵐があれば、それはよほどひどい嵐だ。 |
