| ウィリアム・B・イェイツの詩集「葦を吹き渡る風」から「心の中のバラ」Aedh tells of the Rose in his Heart（壺齋散人訳） 醜いものや壊れたもの 磨り減って古びたもの 道端で叫び泣く子ども 荷車のきしむ音 冬のぬかるみの中で鍬を振るう農夫の重い足取り これらすべての忌まわしい眺めはぼくが抱く君のイメージとはそぐわない これらすべての忌まわしいものはそんなに簡単に語れるものではない できたらそれらすべてを作り直し せいせいとした気持ちになりたい 地面も空も川も作り直し 輝くような世界にしたい そうすればぼくが抱く君のイメージにふさわしい世界になるだろう これは女性に呼びかけている詩だ。女性はモード・ゴン。ナレーターに想定されているイードはイェイツの幻想物語に出てくるキャラクターだが、ここではイェイツ自身と考えてよい。 モード・ゴンはアイルランドの熱烈なナショナリストとして、不正義を糾弾し世界を作り変えることを夢見ていた。たしかに彼女のいうとおり、この世界は忌々しさに満ちている、ナレーターはそういうのだ。 |

The wrong of unshapely things is a wrong too great to be told; I hunger to build them anew and sit on a green knoll apart, With the earth and the sky and the water, remade, like a casket of gold For my dreams of your image that blossoms a rose in the deeps of my heart. |
