| ウィリアム・B・イェイツの詩集「薔薇」から「妖精の歌」A Faery Song（壺齋散人訳） わしらは陽気な年寄りじゃ 年寄りじゃ 何千年生きたかわからない それほどの年寄りじゃ 生まれて間もないこの子達に 平和と愛を しっとりとした星空の夜を 与えてやろう 生まれて間もない子達たちよ 静かな安らぎが 思い通りに訪れたか 答えてごらん 陽気な年寄りのわしたちに わしたちに 何千歳か見当もつかぬ 年寄りたちに アイルランドの民話の世界を歌ったもの。ナレーターは森に住む妖精で、何千歳になったかわからぬほどの年寄りということになっている。また子どもたちとはアイルランド民話の主人公ディアムイドとグラニアをさす。 ディアムイドはグラニアに横恋慕するフィンによって殺された。妖精たちは不幸な運命の二人を悼んで、この歌を歌っているのだろう。 |
