革命詩人シェリーには、歯の浮いたような甘い調子のラヴソングは似合わないかもしれないが、彼はそうした詩をいくつか作っている。

「愛の哲学」は、神の摂理としての自然の結びつきと対比させながら、恋人と自分の結びつきを歌っている。もしその結びつきが成り立たないなら、どんな自然の結びつきも、自分にとっては意味のないものだと歌うことによって、女性からの愛を期待している。
