| ダンテ・ガブリエル・ロゼッティの詩から「初夜の眠り」NUPTIAL SLEEP（壺齋散人訳） ついに彼らは接吻をやめた 甘いうずきとともに 嵐が過ぎ去った後に軒端から落ちる 最後の一滴の水が残す余韻のように 二人の胸には静かな鼓動がこだました 二人はその胸を離しあい 束ねられたバラの 花束がほころびるように 別々に横たわった それでも二人の唇はなお赤く燃えて 互いに求め合っては再びの結合を求めるのだ 眠りが訪れて 夢の底よりも深く二人を沈める その夢が二人が沈み 消えていくのを眺めている やがてゆっくりと魂は目覚める 水のように透き通った光の中で そして蘇った森や小川の流れに驚きながら 男はそばに女がいるのを不思議に思うのだ 「命の家」第8番、性交のあとの眠りを歌ったもの。ロゼッティの代表作とされるものだ。 描写そのものは現代人の我々にとって、そんなにどぎついものではないが、謹厳の偽善が支配していたヴィクトリア時代のイギリス人にとっては度肝を抜かれるほどショッキングだった。 |

NUPTIAL SLEEP At length their long kiss severed, with sweet smart: And as the last slow sudden drops are shed From sparkling eaves when all the storm has fled, So singly flagged the pulses of each heart.
