| エドガー・ポーの詩「天に召されたひとへ」To One in Paradise（壺齋散人訳） 愛する人 あなたはわたしが 心から求めたひとだった あなたは海のオアシスだった そこには泉があふれ宮殿がそびえ 花咲き 果実がたわわに実る それらすべてがわたしのものだった すばらしい夢は長くは続かない 希望の星よ！ お前が空に上るのは 消え行くためなのか！ 未来の彼方から声が聞こえる 進め進め 過去に向かってと （なんということだ）わたしの心は ものいわず動くこともできず呆然とするだけ ああ！悲しい！わたしからは 命の光が失われたのだ もはや もはや もはや （なんといやなことば まるで 海を砂粒の中に閉じ込めるよう） 木は雷に打たれて花咲くこともなく 鷲は翼を折られて飛ぶこともない いまやわたしは夢の中にのみ生きる わたしが夜毎に見る夢には あなたの暗い目が光り あなたの足音が響き渡る 永遠の流れのそばで あなたは透明な踊りを踊っているのだ この詩はポーが二十四歳頃に書いたもので、恋人だった女性の死を悲しんだものとされる。他方そうではなく、ポーが想像した架空の女性だとする説もある。架空の愛を描くのはロマン主義作家の得意とするところだからというわけである。 ポーはこの詩を後に、短編小説「暗殺者」のなかに挿入した。 |
