| エミリー・ディキンソンの詩から「好きよ、それが何マイルも駆けゆき（I like to see it lap the miles）」（壺齋散人訳） 好きよ、それが何マイルも駆けゆき 谷底を舐めるように進み 貯水池に立ち止まって渇きをいやし そして勢いよく山々の 麓を駈け廻っては 高慢ちきな様子で 道端の掘っ立て小屋を覗き込み 石切り場の石を自分の サイズに合わせて削っては ひっきりなしにけたたましい 叫び声をたてながら 丘を転がるように進んでいき 雷の子のようにいなないては 星の運行のように正確に 素直にしかも堂々と 馬小屋の戸口で止まるのを、見るのが この詩は、機関車が野山を疾走するさまを歌ったものである。そのダイナミックな様子を見るのが、わたしは「好きよ」といっているわけである。 |
