| ウィリアム・B・イェイツの詩集「葦を吹き渡る風」から「偉大な過去」Mongan thinks of his past Greatness（壺齋散人訳） 俺は若さの泉からビールを汲み取って飲んだのに いまじゃすべてを思い知らされて泣くだけなんだ 俺は一本のハシバミの木でしかなく いつの間にか枝の間にパイロットスターや 壊れた鋤が引っ掛けられていたってことを 俺はイグサとなって馬に踏みつけられ 何よりも風が嫌いな男になった そこで思い知らされたのは 俺の頭が彼女の膝に安らうことはなく 俺の唇が彼女の髪に触れることもなく 死んでも彼女の愛を得られないということだ イグサも空飛ぶ鳥たちも 俺の愛のために泣いてくれはしたのだが Monganはアイルランドの伝説上の王で、彼を主人公にした叙事詩も作られている。イェイツもこの王の名を引用した詩をいくつか書いているが、かならずしもMonganそのひとと深い関連を持たせているわけではないことは、Aedh の場合と同様である。 |
