| ダンテ・ガブリエル・ロゼッティのソネット集「命の家」から「希望」The One Hope（壺齋散人訳） 満たされぬ欲望と癒されぬ悔恨を抱いたまま いざ死にゆくというときになって 忘れる事の出来ない痛みを癒してくれ 忘れられないことを忘れさせてくれるものは何だろう 心の底にそっと沈んでいた平和の感情だろうか それとも魂を緑の野原に漂わせ 命の泉から吹き上げる飛沫を浴びながら しぶきに濡れた一輪の花を摘み取ることだろうか 光り輝く大気のなか 風に揺れる花びらに囲まれ 弱々しくなったわたしの魂が息を潜めて 始めてみる優美な贈り物にうっとりとする それに名前をつけるとしたら 他でもない 希望という その名前こそわたしの望むもの それ以下でも それ以上でもない 「命の家」第101番。ソネット集の最後に置いたこの詩の中でロゼッティが歌っているのは希望。人は死に臨んでも猶、希望を捨ててはならない。 |

The one hope When vain desire at last and vain regret Go hand in hand to death, and all is vain, What shall assuage the unforgotten pain And teach the unforgetful to forget? Shall Peace be still a sunk stream long unmet, Or may the soul at once in a green plain Stoop through the spray of some sweet life-fountain And cull the dew-drenched flowering amulet? Ah! when the wan soul in that golden air Between the scriptured petals softly blown Peers breathless for the gift of grace unknown, - Ah! let none other alien spell soe'er But only the one Hope's one name be there, - Not less nor more, but even that word alone. |
